About This Project

Who doesn’t know who Stephen West is? Thanks to his architectonic designs of  simple-clean lines, and an innovative use of color, he has become one of the most respected and well-known designers world-wide. His Shawl patterns, published under the brand of Westknits, have been knitted by thousands of knitters all around the world.

Stephen was born in Tulsa (Oklahoma, U.S.A). He studied dance at the University of Illinois. It was in Urbana, where he found Klose Knit, a wool shop, whose creative atmosphere inspired him to design his first patterns. Shortly after that, he released his Colonnade shawl in the 2009 autumn edition of Knitty. Then he moved to Amsterdam, where he continued publishing his designs and released a series of pattern books under the name of Westknits, his own brand.

Nowadays, Stephen continues to publish  pattern books and organizes several Kal every year. He is also the co-owner of Stephen & Penélope, a wool boutique right in the heart of the city of Amsterdam. Last February, Stephen and his partner Malia accomplished their dream: they released West Wool, their own wool brand.

Stephen has given workshops in the United States, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Italy, France, Israel, Island, the United Kingdom and Netherlands. And this year we are glad to have him in this second edition of Barcelona Knits.
