PORT VELL cowl: THE PATTERN OF BARCELONA KNITS 2024
As is tradition, every year we give away a pattern specially designed for the occasion with the entrance to the fair. We think it’s a great way to start thinking about yarns to knit during the weekend and also to remember those special moments while you are knitting with your needles.
The official pattern of Barcelona Knits 2024 is the Port Vell cowl, knitted in stockinette stitch, designed by our dear Vanessa Pellisa.
Vanessa Pellisa is an independent knitting designer. Her patterns are inspired by literature, memories and natural fibers. She loves all knitting techniques, but most especially ganseys, fair isle and unusual constructions.
About the Port Vell cowl
The pattern takes its name from the oldest part of the Port of Barcelona, located just a few meters from the World Trade Center Barcelona.
To create the cowl design, Vanessa was inspired by the traditional gansey sweaters of the English Channel Islands. These seamless garments were usually ecru or navy blue, had cables and braids, and were fitted to the body to protect sailors from inclement weather.
A tribute to the traditional trades of the sea for knitting by the Mediterranean.
And the yarn?
For this very special edition, we have a great novelty. All exhibitors knew the pattern beforehand and have had the opportunity to create a special color or an accessory inspired by Vanessa Pellisa’s design. So you can knit the Port Vell cowl with your favorite yarns.
You will need one skein fingering / sport wool (100% merino wool, 100 g/ 380 m).
