Filipa Carneiro | Purl Inlay colorwork: entretejer colores

Purl Inlay colorwork: entretejer colores

Would you like to add patterns of colour and texture to your projects in a new and exciting way? This workshop is for you! Filipa will teach you how to knit colours together to create unique and impressive designs.

Filipa’s adventure with this technique began when she discovered some curious patterns in an old machine knitting book. She had never seen anything like this hand-knitted before and started experimenting to recreate the technique. The result is somewhat similar to the inlay technique, but the thread always remains on the right side of the fabric, never crossing over to the reverse. To achieve this, the contrasting coloured thread is secured on the right side to create an intricate pattern, similar to an embroidery stitch. This is then combined with the knitting principles to create beautiful motifs.

In short, colour patterns are worked by knitting the new colour into the fabric using a purl stitch. Despite its elaborate appearance, it is surprisingly simple to execute. With a little practice, you can create unique designs. And, if you know how to knit purl in the Portuguese style, it will be even easier – you’ll love it!

Workshop content:

  • Introduction to purl knitting, how to handle the 2 colours.
  • How to knit the basic purl knitting stitch using the 2 colours
  • How to read the interweaving charts
  • How to knit the circular patterns

With the workshop, you will receive the pattern of a collar using this technique so that you can practice.
